Annie, Jim, Norm, Rowdy, DJ, Pippin, and Jazzy. Names of new EDRA in Motion participants? Well, sort of. All were listed in March submittals, but they appear to be equine partners involved with conditioning rides, hand-walking, arena work, colt training, or trail rides. Many of these submittals also included commentary on wind, sleet, a dallop of sun, and hail. (Oh, how Carol Giles loves training in the spring – and silly girl, she doesn’t carry a raincoat????) Holly Haddenham spoke of enjoying the longer days and the longer walks. While others routinely commented on the freezing cold.
Dog walks, hikes, horse chores, stationary bikes, yoga, seeing friends at the EDRA conference, pickleball, skiing, curling, treadmills, and working oncology (thank you Sara Campbell, having had the past experience (20 years ago) of being a chemo patient, your work is noble.
Over the four years of the EDRA in Motion Challenges (2020-2024), with 184 participants, over a possible 2,020 monthly entries, we have had only eight individuals log in 300 or more miles per month. (Granted some of them have had multiple months of 300+ miles, like AJ Haddenham who still holds the all-time record of submitting 716 miles in one month – which sort of explains why he’s now rehabbing from knee surgery.) In 2025, Jillane Baros had a killer month with 306 miles. But for those of you new to the Challenge – don’t get discouraged!!! A lot of “interesting” things can happen – ride season gets underway, and equines require less conditioning and more rest. And, since you can’t report competitive miles, some of you will find mileage submittals actually drop. Or someone doesn’t meet a deadline and forgets to submit their miles. There is plenty of time to pump up your miles and many of you are already qualified for a 2025 completion award, having racked up over 100 miles in just one month. Check out the standings and you’ll see that over half of this year’s participants are already eligible!
Welcome to first time participants – Sara Campbell, Katie DeNiro, Rachel Gibson, Rebecca Lengtat, Roriana Lengtat, Rory Lengtat, Victoria Marsh, Rachel Miller, Marlene Poe, Shayne Russell, and Katheriana Schumacher!
As many of you know, I love hearing about where you’ve traveled and the names of interesting sounding destinations. As a group we experienced Utah, Arizona, Comicon, Butterfly Lake, Chiricahua Mountains, the Denver Airport – in search of an outdoor doggy relief area, Alexander Creek, Mission Ridge, Ancient Lakes, Osteen, 360 Park, Calvary Trails, Beezly Hills, Gray Butte, Alexander Trail, Green Mountain, and the Badlands.
The first month of the Challenge also included some equipment issues… Bonnie Girod left her pedometer sitting outside while she went for a ride, and it got wet. The condensation has blurred
out the numbers! Hopefully, it has dried out Bonnie – or maybe you need to visit Westin again? And Teresa Dixon hasn’t quite figured out her new watch for tracking walks and forgetting to track some of her activities.
Looking forward seeing those April submittals, so keep on moving and Celebrate Every Mile!
