Legacy of Smiles Virtual Silent Auction – Donations Requested

The Equine Distance Riding Association (EDRA) Board of Directors is proud to announce the Legacy of Smiles Virtual Silent Auction benefiting the Mary & Anna Memorial Youth Fund.

Established in memory of Mary Nunn and Anna Sampson, the Mary & Anna Memorial Youth Fund helps kids participate in distance riding events by covering 50% of eligible ride entry fees. Since its creation, the fund has contributed toward more than 1,000 ride entries for minors at endurance events throughout the Pacific Northwest.

To help support this important work, EDRA will host an online silent auction in August. Bidding will be open to both EDRA members and the broader endurance and equestrian communities. The final schedule is still under development, but we anticipate the audit closing sometime around August 23, recognizing donors and bidders during the Selkirk Distance Derby.

We are currently seeking donated items, services, and experiences to feature in the auction. Donations already committed include:

  • A two-hour therapeutic massage session for one person, generously donated by licensed massage therapist Arielle Blume-Bonney.
  • Twelve ride photographs, personal-use digital downloads from available events photographed between 2016 and 2026, plus any future events photographed by Dave Honan through the end of the 2027 EDRA ride season. Donated by David Honan Photography.
  • A barefoot hoof trim and glue-on Versa Octo shoeing package for one horse, donated by Dennis & Sue Summers, followed by a conditioning ride in the Trout Lake/Mount Adams area. This overnight experience includes shoeing on the first day and a conditioning ride the following day.
  • A photography session with you and your equine, including one 8” x 10” metallic float print, with additional purchase options available. Donated by Jala Neufeld.
  • One equine body clip, donated by Kelsey Corey of Go Pony Body Clipping.
  • Twenty-five pounds of home-grown ground beef, donated by Jennifer Kaplan & Kevin Eichhorn of Lillitut Ranch.
  • One animal communication session offering intuitive, behavior-focused support to help an owner better understand and strengthen their bond with an equine, dog, or cat. The phone-based session is dedicated to one animal and typically lasts 30 minutes. Donated by Margaret Birdsey.
  • One pair of Beats Studio Buds+ true wireless noise-canceling earbuds with enhanced Apple and Android compatibility, built-in microphone, sweat resistance, and spatial audio. Donated by Margaret Birdsey.

EDRA is actively seeking additional high-interest items, services, and experiences to feature in the auction. Equine-related services, artwork, new tack, training, clinic or lesson opportunities, vacation stays, gift certificates, and other unique offerings are especially welcome. If you would like to contribute, please contact Sue McLain at kastu88@msn.com no later than July 15, 2026.

To prepare the auction listing, she will need:

  • A detailed description of the donated item, service, or experience.
  • The fair market value (FMV) of the item or service.
  • A suggested minimum bid amount, typically 30–50% of FMV.
  • The donor or business name, for recognition purposes.
  • Any restrictions, expiration dates, pickup or shipping details, or other requirements.
  • At least one photo of the donated item, experience, or service for inclusion in the auction catalog.

Donors will be recognized in auction materials, social media promotions, and related event communications.

On behalf of the EDRA Board, thank you for considering a contribution to the Legacy of Smiles fundraiser and helping to create opportunities for the next generation of endurance riders.
